Eagles News: All-Pro edge rusher granted permission to seek trade

Eagles All-Pro edge rusher Haason Reddick may be suiting up for a different team in 2024.

First reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Reddick has received permission to seek a trade following another double-digit sack season.

Reddick, who will be 30 in September, signed a three-year, $45M deal with the Eagles in 2022, racking up 27 sacks over the last two seasons.

Pass rushers with similar production have gotten lucrative deals since then, however, and the belief is Reddick would likely command a contract extension that would pay him roughly $25M annually.

Top EDGE contracts in NFL (AAV)

  • Nick Bosa: $34M
  • TJ Watt: $28M
  • Joey Bosa: $27M
  • Myles Garrett: $25M
  • Montez Sweat: $24.5M
  • Rashan Gary: $24M
  • Khalil Mack: $23.5M
  • Maxx Crosby: $23.5M

Reddick addressed his contract last offseason during training camp, so this development isn’t a total surprise.

“I ain’t going to sit here. You all see it. You all know what’s going on. I’m just worried about being the best version of myself and let everything else sort itself out.”

On his current deal, Reddick is 17th in the NFL in average annual value. With extensions for DeVonta Smith and Landon Dickerson looming, Reddick’s asking price may be too rich for Howie Roseman.

PHLY’s Zach Berman reports that Philadelphia will only move Reddick in a deal that “makes sense” — both with the compensation in return and if their cap objectives cannot be achieved with a new deal.

If the Eagles can’t find a willing suitor, they may be able to find a middle ground with Reddick and retain his services.
