Patrick Beverley pretends to care about Doc Rivers, calls out JJ Redick for his recent criticism of the Bucks’ head coach

Patrick Beverley took issue with JJ Redick laying into Milwaukee Bucks’ Doc Rivers on ESPN earlier this week.

To recap, Rivers became the topic of discussion on ESPN following a miserable 3-7 start to begin his head coaching tenure with the Bucks. In true Doc fashion, he managed to make every excuse as to why the Bucks have lost their way, while bitching and moaning through every press conference and interview. 

That led JJ Redick to address the Doc Rivers situation and current fallout on ESPN. 

JJ Redick on Doc Rivers:

“I’ve seen the trend for years. The trend is always making excuses. Doc, we get it. Taking over a team in the middle of a season is hard… it’s always an excuse. It’s always throwing your team under the bus… there’s never accountability with that guy.” [Watch Video Here]

After everything started to unfold on the internet, former Philadelphia 76ers player Patrick Beverley chimed in, taking a shot at JJ Redick for the criticism of his current head coach in Milwaukee.

Leave it to Rat Bev to scurry into an argument that in all reality, wouldn’t have even been mentioned by him if he wasn’t playing in Milwaukee for Doc Rivers. How do I know that? The Rat was running his mouth on the Pat Bev Pod about the Philadelphia 76ers days after he was traded at the deadline.

Not to mention, pretty much everything about Rat Bev’s tweet was incorrect. Redick signed for a 4-year, $27 million contract with Doc Rivers’ Los Angeles Clippers in 2013. 

When Redick became a free agent, he was in pretty high-demand around the NBA and ultimately signed in Philadelphia, where he had arguably his three best seasons of his professional career.

On the other hand, you have Patrick “The Rat” Beverley, who up until recently I actually really enjoyed as a basketball player and podcast host. Pat Bev has officially “jumped the shark” and what used to be fun to watch from afar while he pissed off other players on the basketball court, has turned into nothing more than content for his podcast.

That’s fine, but it should be said. 

As for his Twitter feud with JJ Redick. He has no ground to stand on and really, is completely wrong with his criticism anyways. Rat Bev, known for trash talking and defensive prowess, which he reminds everyone about constantly will never be the scorer that JJ Redick was. That’s important because the NBA, especially in the “Curry Era” of shooting a ton of threes and putting points on the board, Redick fit the mold which made him a sought-after free agent. 

Pat Bev hasn’t averaged more than 8 points in a season since 2017-18 in Los Angeles. As for his defense, The Rat hasn’t won any award for his defense since making  Second-Team All Defense and winning the Defensive Player of the Year Award during the 2019-2020 season. 

So yeah, JJ Redick is absolutely correct in his criticism of Doc Rivers and then again in his own defense against Rat Bev. Not only was he right, Doc Rivers then went on to admit that he didn’t understand why the Bucks gave him $40 million to become their new head coach.

Eastern Conference Standings

The Milwaukee Bucks are 35-21 on the season and sit in third place in the Eastern Conference Standings. They are 3-7 over their last 10 games under Doc Rivers and lost two straight heading into the All-Star break. 

As for the Philadelphia 76ers, they sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference Standings at 32-22. They are two games behind the Bucks, and also 3-7 over their last 10 games – all of which were played without Joel Embiid in the lineup. The Sixers will return to the lineup tomorrow night at home against the New York Knicks.
