WATCH: Umpire caught swearing on hot mic after home run in Phillies vs. Rangers
It’s not often that MLB umpires are heard on a game broadcast. That changed in the 8th inning of Phillies vs. Rangers when a member of the crew was caught on a hot mic when Kyle Seager hit a home run.
Umpire Alan Porter was having a less-than-PG conversation with some players after the solo shot:

I’ve asked it once, and I’ll ask it a thousand times more. How can you not be romantic about baseball?
Funnily enough, crew chief Alan Porter is a Philly guy. He went to Hatboro-Horsham High School, where he played football and baseball.
In all honesty, it was pretty difficult to make out what was said, but I caught that f-bomb loud and clear. I don’t know if MLB will hand down any sort of fine, I highly doubt it, but we all know leagues can ruin fun, harmless moments in an instant with stuff like that.
This is yet another example that shows us MLB umpires are human, just like us. First, we saw a dude take a pitch to the nuts, and now we have a local guy cursing on a live broadcast.
It’s made for some pretty good PR for umps as far as I’m concerned. Their reputation has been pretty brutal for pretty much the entirety of baseball history, so maybe this is exactly what they’ve needed.
