WATCH: Phillies fan gives home run ball to a baby in heartwarming moment
Phillies fans are the best fans in baseball, there’s no question about it. Despite the (somewhat earned) reputation of Philly fans in general, there was a beautiful moment in the stands when the Fightins took on the Rangers at 1pm in front of a near-sellout crowd.
JT Realmuto hit a deep home run, Phillies fan turned right around to give the foul ball to an infant in his row:
J.T with the #Phillies home run!! Shout to the guy who handled the ball to the baby, hats off to him. #RingTheBell pic.twitter.com/n0yuP1nw0s
— Alex 🦅 (@Philly_Made_AL) May 23, 2024Before we talk about this heartwarming scene, just look at that stadium. Packed to the gills at 1pm on a Thursday? Only in Philly.
Of course, giving a home run ball to practically newborn baby is something you’d probably only see in Philly as well. The crowd around them went absolutely nuts, and I’m sure that if the moment was caught on the jumbotron, the stadium would have erupted even more than it did for the home run.
Can we drop the Philly fans are awful trope yet? I don’t really care about the reputation, our body of work speaks for itself, but I’d be lying if I said it isn’t tiresome.
This Phillies fan had the impressive presence of mind to catch a clutch home run, fight off those trying to snatch it from him, and then control his spiked adrenaline to gently hand the ball to an infant. Well done all around, I commend him for it.
It is pretty funny that this baby will have zero recollection of this moment whatsoever. But it will definitely make for a great video to show them when they’re older. They’ll be a guaranteed Phillies fan for life.
Also, that baby has some serious drip going on. The bucket hat? Are you kidding?? I couldn’t leave the house with that one without being ridiculed, but they pull it off with ease.
Finally, shout out to they baby’s parents. They’re never too young to take in the ballpark experience, especially at Citizens Bank Park. Just a great job by everyone involved here, even the person holding the camera.

Bucket hats on baby in the ballpark should be a requirement
