News of the Chicago Sky’s harassment was greatly exaggerated as video of the encounter surfaces

ESPN reported late last night that the Chicago Sky were harassed by an individual wielding a camera as they got off their team bus. Players were outraged on the timeline, thanking god security was there, but now that the video of the encounter has surfaced, things seem to have gone down a little differently.

It appears the account that posted the original video of the blog reporter asking Chennedy Carter questions got nuked.

Well, that was… anticlimactic. It seems like the Chicago Sky were bothered, but nothing more.

This is nothing more than a classic paparazzi/TMZ run-in. This happens to professional athletes on a daily basis.

Obviously, WNBA players aren’t used to the spotlight. The second they get some kind of unwanted attention, they freak the hell out.

I’m not saying it’s right, but it comes with the territory of being a high-profile person. Athlete, politician, actor, it doesn’t matter. If you’re in the news, shit like this is going to happen. And this is far from the worst encounter someone’s had with the press; just look at Princess Diana.

Nobody outside of hardcore WNBA had even heard of Chennedy Carter. She declines to answer questions in a press conference, then immediately talks shit on Twitter. That’s going to get the paparazzi buzzing.

Fame doesn’t happen on your terms. Once you’re out in the public eye, things like this will happen.

Chicago Sky player Michaela Oneyenwere said that there was a lot more to the video. But, honestly, the calmness of this interaction makes me doubt any of what she said happened took place.

Interesting how the video posted was edited and doesn’t include when he harassed our staff while calling us “ghetto b******” and saying “women’s sports isn’t s***”.

We are not about to normalize things like that.

Sure, the video is short, and we only know about what we see, but this is just yet another brutal look at the WNBA as a whole. Players said they were unable to exit the bus, but it looks like this dude popped up with a camera just asking questions.

Is it annoying? Sure. But it’s far from the harassment we were led to believe it was.
