Nick Sirianni is not worried about his job status, only worried about getting his team better
Eagles fans have been pretty blunt about their feelings toward head coach Nick Sirianni this season. With every passing game, win or lose, there seems to be more and more fans calling for his job.
After his team’s latest embarrassment, a 33-16 drumming by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the ‘Fire Sirianni’ sentiments have hit a fever pitch. Local and national media agree — Nick Sirianni is not cut out for the job.
Despite all the noise, Sirianni isn’t worried about his job status — or at least that’s what he wants people to think. During his weekly appearance on 94WIP Tuesday morning, host Joe DeCamara asked Sirianni straight up, “Are you feeling the heat ratcheting up on your job status?”
Nick Sirianni on his job status entering the bye week
“No, I’m just worried about getting the team better,” Sirianni said. “I’m just worried about the bye week and putting ourselves in position to win coming out of the bye week and I’ll be worried about the Cleveland Browns. You can’t worry about any of those different things. Right now, we’re 2-2. We’ve got a lot of football in front of us and just put my head down and work.”
I always hate when reporters or interviewers ask this type of question. You already know the answer the coach is going to give, so why even ask? Sirianni will never tell reporters, especially 94WIP hosts, if he’s actually worried about getting fired.
I’m not a Sirianni sympathizer by any means, but this is the kind of attitude you have to have in his position. If he starts worrying about his job, he’s just going to unravel.
Sirianni is a lot of things. A cool, calm, and collected head coach he is not. If he has any inkling that his job was on the line, I can only imagine how crazy he would go on the sideline and some of the in-game decisions he’d make.
The bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for this team. They’ll enter Week 6 fully healthy, with a pretty easy stretch of games ahead of them. No more excuses. If Nick Sirianni wants to keep his job, he has to turn it around right now.
