Brandon Graham hangs game-worn Super Bowl LIX cleats on the Rocky Statue- thoughts on how it could impact ‘The Curse’
Brandon Graham just hung his pair of his game-worn cleats from Super Bowl LIX up on the Rocky Statue today, officially marking the end of his playing career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Brandon Graham hanging up the cleats on the Rocky Statue is pretty cool. Personally, I’m not really a fan of that statue or the fact that a fictional character is used as the face of the city of Philadelphia during any professional sports broadcast, but I get the sentiment.
Not to mention, the second this was posted on social media, if you think there wasn’t a bunch of Eagles fans all thinking the same thing on how quickly they could get down to the statue and snag the cleats, then you’re sadly mistaken.
My guess, it was just a quick PR stint for BG to show his appreciation.Â
Brandon Graham’s Impact on the Rocky Statue Curse
Let’s just hope Brandon Graham hanging the cleats up doesn’t impact the Rocky Statue Curse, which has benefitted the Eagles and really any Philly sports team throughout the years.Â
For whatever reason opposing fanbases like to deck the statue out with their team’s gear and like clockwork, messing with Rocky never seems work out too well. Check the recent history of teams who made this critical mistake.
Here are the results for opposing fanbases who mess with the Rocky Statue…
- 2015: Giants: L
- 2017: Vikings: L (NFC Championship Game)
- 2018: Patriots: L (Super Bowl 52)
- 2022: Astros L (World Series Game 3)
- 2023: Giants LÂ
- 2023: 49ers – L (NFC Championship Game)
- 2023: Chiefs* – W (Super Bowl in Arizona, False Flag)
- 2023: Diamondbacks (5 Fans, NLCS Game 1) – L
- 2023: Dolphins – LÂ
- 2023: Cowboys – L
- 2023: Bills – DNP – L
- 2023: 49ers – W
- 2024: Commanders – L
That’s a whole lot of losses for doing something as silly as putting your team’s gear on a meaningless statue, right?
I should probably clarify yet again that any time this happens, it has nothing to do with the Rocky Statue. It’s more of the fact that these loser opposing fanbases think that anyone actually cares what they do to that dumb statue of Rocky outside of the Art Museum.
It means absolutely nothing to the majority of Philadelphians and sports fans in this city.
That statue is there for tourists and the locals who try to make a quick $5 by taking pictures of them in front of it. Outside of that, completely meaningless. Literally no one cares about the Rocky Statue and you can literally take that chunk of metal and toss it in the Schuylkill River for all I care.
The narrative that people in Philadelphia care about two things, Rocky and Cheesesteaks is absolutely insane and couldn’t be further from the truth. The majority of people don’t give a shit about the Rocky statue in the city of Philadelphia which is why it’s even more funny that people from out of town think it’s some major insult to our city and sports culture.
Then on top of that, every time it happens, their team loses. We’re laughing at you.
Now that we got that squared away, BG hanging up the cleats on the statue should give the curse even more power. I have zero concern it will take away the Rocky Statue Curse power. In fact, it will probably do the opposite.
Lets hope those cleats providing an Infinity Stone type of effect on the statue. I don’t watch Marvel movies but the big purple guy who I always see in memes collects those stones and makes himself more powerful, right?Â
Every Philadelphia legend should make a sacrifice to the Rocky Statue before calling it quits. That will only empower the curse for future championship runs.
