Former Eagles Super Bowl champ defends Jalen Hurts’ honor against the engagement farm

The Eagles might be in training camp mode, but apparently, the drama can’t stay in the offseason. And as usual, it’s circling Jalen Hurts — because God forbid a quarterback wins a Super Bowl without being a one-man show.

Cam Newton has been chirping for some time now. The former MVP can’t seem to stop talking about how Hurts was “carried” to a title. You’d think Cam would’ve learned after the first round of backlash, but nope. He doubled down.

Enter Torrey Smith.

The Eagles Super Bowl LII champ and fan-favorite didn’t hold back. He hopped on X to call out Newton’s nonsense and made one thing clear: Hurts is not a passenger, he’s the engine.

“Jalen is the only QB that gets punished because he has a competent GM,” Smith wrote. “Jalen does his job with what he has. Every other GM is trying to put their QB in the same situation as Jalen Hurts. Superhero ball is overrated. You can win because HE is your QB!”

Smith’s point is something most Eagles fans have been screaming for years: just because the front office knows what it’s doing and builds a well-rounded team doesn’t mean Hurts is getting a free ride. He still has to show up, make the throws, lead the locker room, and deliver in the clutch. And he’s done all of it.

Meanwhile, Hurts — being Hurts — isn’t taking the bait. He brushed off the questions like they were a linebacker blitz. No distractions, no quotes for the blogs, just eyes on the prize. Again.

Eagles fans don’t forget, and neither do real ones.

Torrey Smith may have only been in Philly for one season, but between a Super Bowl ring and now going to bat for QB1, his legacy here is as secure as it gets.

So Cam can keep talking. The Eagles will keep stacking wins. And Hurts? He’ll keep letting the results speak for themselves.
