Roster Moves: Eagles shake up wide receiver room early in camp

The Eagles wasted no time making roster moves as training camp ramps up, waiving wide receiver Danny Gray with an injury designation and signing Ife Adeyi in his place.

It’s a classic “numbers game” situation — one that Gray unfortunately found himself on the wrong end of.

Gray had been working to carve out a spot as a training camp underdog, but a finger injury sidelined him for two straight practices. That, combined with Elijah Cooks looking like a legit breakout candidate, made Gray the odd man out. The Birds didn’t wait around.

Let’s not forget: Gray joined the Eagles’ practice squad last September after the 49ers cut him at the end of their camp. He never got elevated to the active roster during the 2024 season, but the team liked him enough to bring him back for offseason work. Still, availability matters — and in this camp, reps are everything.

Eagles Add Speed with Ife Adeyi

In Adeyi, the Eagles are bringing in another burner who can stretch the field. He flashed speed and shiftiness in college, and at this stage in camp, you’re looking for guys who can make an instant impression. With multiple wideouts battling for the final roster spots, expect Adeyi to get thrown into the fire immediately.

Training Camp Moves Are Just Getting Started

The Eagles aren’t done tinkering. These early roster moves are all about maximizing reps and giving rising players every chance to stand out. Gray may not be done in Philly forever — he’s still eligible for a future/reserve contract if things line up — but for now, the Eagles are moving forward with guys who are healthy and ready to compete.

With padded practices heating up and the WR3 battle wide open, don’t be surprised if more shakeups are coming soon. It’s survival of the fittest out there, and the Eagles are making that crystal clear.
