Eagles Training Camp: Looks like rookie second-round pick has secured a starting spot

After his electric performance in the Eagles preseason matchup against Cleveland, it looks like rookie safety Andrew Mukuba has secured a starting spot.

Per multiple reports from camp, Mukuba took the majority of the first-team reps during Monday’s practice, with Sydney Brown working in with the second-team.

Mukuba is probably going to be the Eagles’ Week 1 start at safety

A lot of fans, myself included, have wanted the team to bring in a veteran at the position (i.e. Justin Simmons), but Mukuba did enough in Week 2 to win me over. I know, it’s just preseason, but did you see how he played? Looked like a stud out there.

A 75-yard pick-six to go along with a fumble recovery. Mukuba was touted as a ball hawk coming out of college and he’s already making good on that scouting report.

If Mukuba holds down the starting spot, this will be the second year in a row where the Eagles roll with rookies in their secondary. And if the Texas product shows up like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean did last season, Vic Fangio’s defense might be even more nasty this time around.
