Vikings got creative to stop the Tush Push, Eagles and Jalen Hurts respond with an elite air attack to win 28-22
At long last, somebody actually tried something new to stop the Eagles’ unstoppable short-yardage machine.
On Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings didn’t just line up like everyone else and whine about the “tush push” afterward. They rolled out a formation so bizarre that it looked like they were setting up for a rugby scrum or a human speed bump.
When the Eagles lined up for their signature play, Vikings linebacker Tyler Batty literally laid sideways on the ground right in front of the ball.
Two teammates hovered behind him, the idea being to clog the low pad level and prevent the Eagles’ offensive line from getting any leverage on the push.

The Vikings Tried. It Didn’t Work.
The Eagles converted anyway.
They tried it again later in the half, and this time the Eagles jumped early, but it wasn’t because the Vikings cracked the code. The look just threw the Birds off long enough to cause a false start.
Innovative? Sure. Effective? Not really.
Still, credit where it’s due… at least Minnesota did something besides cry about it. Every offseason, NFL coaches and talking heads waste oxygen complaining that the tush push is “unfair.”
Meanwhile, the Eagles just keep using it legally and keep getting first downs out of it. Maybe this was the start of some creativity from defensive coordinators instead of another round of “ban the play” think pieces.
It Didn’t Really Work… But Go Off
Vikings DC Brian Flores may have FINALLY figured out how to stop the tush push.

The Real Story: Jalen Hurts Went Nuclear
While everyone’s focused on how to stop a one-yard sneak, Jalen Hurts quietly put together the best passing performance in the NFL this season.
Hurts finished 19-for-23 for 326 yards, three touchdowns, and a perfect 158.3 passer rating. He didn’t need the tush push. He didn’t even need much of a run game. He just aired it out and torched the Vikings secondary.
Jalen Hurts posts a perfect 158.3 passer rating and a deep ball masterclass vs. Vikings
It’s becoming a pattern. Anytime someone questions Hurts, he responds with a masterclass. He went 5-for-5 on deep passes, hit both A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith for huge scores, and reminded everyone that the Eagles’ offense doesn’t need to rely on any gimmicks to dominate.
