Eagles swing three deadline deals, land star pass-rusher Jaelan Phillips to seal the frenzy
Eagles GM Howie Roseman has a very busy Halloween weekend. With the trade deadline looming, Howie pulled off a trio of trades.
First, he landed Jets nickel corner Michael Carter. On Saturday, he brought in former All-Pro Jaire Alexander. And to cap things off Monday morning, Howie pulled off the best trade yet, landing Miami Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips for a 2026 third-round pick.
Eagles doing Eagles things at the deadline:
Phillips has had a pretty solid career, but he’s never reached elite status. He came out of the gates hot, racking up 15.5 sacks in his first two seasons. The following two years were marred by injuries, playing only 12 combined games during that stretch. This year, he’s been okay, recording three sacks and posting a 77.8 pass rush grade on PFF.
The biggest thing for Phillips has always been health, and so far in 2025, he’s been injury free. He’ll reunite with Vic Fangio here in Philadelphia and will be inserted into a defensive line that’s just about to get fully healthy. Brandon Graham is set to make his first appearance this season next week, along with Nolan Smith (hopefully) coming off IR.
On top of all that, Phillips will actually count towards the Eagles compensatory formula this offseason if he’s not re-signed. Meaning, he could fetch the Birds a third-round pick in 2027, if he turns out to just be a rental.
Not a bad situation to be in at all.
This might be the most active the Birds have been at the deadline in my lifetime, which is crazy considering who the general manager is. All three trades have been on the defensive side of the ball, which tells you all you need to know. The Eagles have the pieces on offense, and now that they have a new batch of players for Fangio to utilize on defense, that side of the ball may finally be able to reach the heights they did last season. Only time will tell.
