WATCH: Eagles break out the Tush Push Celly at Lambeau after beating the team that tried to ban it
The Philadelphia Eagles made a statement on Monday Night Football in a cold, defensive slugfest. They escaped Green Bay with 10-7 win and added some extra spice with the defense breaking out a Tush Push Celly in the Packers’ end zone.
Everyone in the league knows by now that the Packers were the team that proposed banning the Tush Push last offseason.
The Eagles clearly never forgot about it either.
The Backstory
Green Bay’s front office submitted the proposal to outlaw the play earlier this year, claiming it was unsafe and “not real football.” The NFL reportedly encouraged the Packers to do it because of their unique ownership setup, which let them act without a single decision-maker pushing back.
The vote failed by a slim margin, leaving the Eagles free to keep using their most unstoppable weapon.
Former Packers president Mark Murphy later said he still believes the league should get rid of the play, calling it “unskilled” and “a bad look for football.” Murphy also called the play “unstoppable” which personally, I was confused about but I digress.
The Game Within the Game
This matchup had tension built in from the start. The Eagles have made the Tush Push their trademark, while the Packers tried to erase it from the sport. Mix in the fact that the Birds beat the Packers in Week 1 last year and then again in the NFC Wild Card and there’s no denying that Monday Night Football had a little extra juice.
Eagles Defense Breaks Out The Tush Push Turnover Celly
The Eagles have been slightly less efficient with the Tush Push this season, converting 76 percent of attempts after hitting 92 percent in 2022. They are also running the play less, which is likely due to the fact that the offensive line has been banged up all season.
I could be wrong on this but I think they only went to the Tush Push once on Monday Night in Green Bay.
I also don’t care if it’s a false start. That’s an official problem, not mine.

Eagles Escape with a 10-7 win
The Eagles struggled to move the ball early, but Jalen Hurts came alive late. He connected with DeVonta Smith for a 36-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win and move the Eagles to 7-2 on the season. The defense handled the rest, holding Jordan Love and the Packers scoreless through three quarters.
Newly acquired edge rusher Jaelan Phillips had an incredible debut, finishing with six tackles, two quarterback hits, and a critical fourth-down stop. It was a complete team win for a defense that continues to improve each week.

Eagles Path to the No. 1 Seed in the NFC
With eight games left in the regular season, Philadelphia controls its path to the No. 1 seed and the coveted first-round bye. If the Eagles win out, they will lock up home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. Even if they drop a game or two, they are in a strong position to keep that top spot.
Philadelphia already owns head-to-head tiebreakers over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, and Green Bay Packers.
The Packers’ tie earlier this season makes it unlikely that the teams will finish with identical records, but those tiebreakers could still matter as the playoff picture tightens.
The Eagles also have an important edge over the Seattle Seahawks. They currently hold a better conference record at 6-1 compared to Seattle’s 4-2. That advantage could come into play since the teams do not face each other this season.
The Rams and Seahawks are both 7-2 and remain the biggest threats for the top seed. The good news for the Eagles is that both teams have tough slates ahead.
Los Angeles has the sixth-hardest remaining schedule while Seattle has the seventh-hardest. They also play each other twice, including a massive Week 11 matchup that will likely help determine who keeps pace with Philadelphia.
