Bold Predictions for the 2022 Phillies Season

The Phillies open up their season today against the Oakland Athletics, the start of one of the most anticipated seasons in recent memory. After acquiring Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber in free agency, Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies have proved that the goal of this season is one thing: to win the World Series.

Phillies 2022 Bold Predictions
Ranger Suarez will be the best pitcher in the Phillies’ starting rotation
Ranger Suarez was on absolute fire last season both in the rotation and the bullpen for the Phillies. Suarez finished the season with a record of 8-5. He held a 1.36 ERA, appearing in 39 games (12 starts) and 106 innings pitched.
Suarez had a 1.00 WHIP and a total of 107 strikeouts. If Suarez pitches like he did last season for a full season this year in the Phillies’ starting rotation, not only will he be the best Phillies starting pitcher, but he will be in the race for National League Cy Young Award.
Rhys Hoskins (if healthy) will lead the Phillies in home runs
Rhys Hoskins needs to stay healthy. If he is able to do so, there’s no reason why he won’t lead the Phillies in home runs this season. Last year, Hoskins finished the year slashing .247/.360/.502 with a .862 OPS. In 107 games, Hoskins hit 27 home runs with 71 RBI.
In a lineup where he is now fully protected, surrounded by Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, Bryce Harper, and JT Realmuto, pitchers will be forced to challenge Hoskins more over the plate, giving him plenty of opportunities to hit bombs.
FOUR Phillies players will hit over 30 home runs this season
Dingers Only. That will be the rally cry for the Philadelphia Phillies during the 2022 MLB season.
Kyle Schwarber, JT Realmuto, Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos, Rhys Hoskins, Didi Gregorius, Jean Segura, Bryson Stott, and Mickey Moniak (pain) combined to hit .298/.369/.619 with 26 home runs in 336 plate appearances during Spring Training.
Bryce Harper led the way with eight home runs this Spring, followed by Mickey Moniak with six. Rhys Hoskins and Kyle Schwarber both hit three home runs and Didi Gregorius hit two. Everyone else on the roster basically hit one home run.
Castellanos 30+ | Harper 30+ | Hoskins 30+ | Schwarber 30+
- Bryce Harper goes back to back MVP’s
- Corey Knebel is a 35-save pitcher
- Phillies win 92 games, win NL East
- Hoskins 100+ RBIs
- Wheeler and Nola statistically finish as a Top 3 1-2 punch in baseball
Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler statistically finish as a Top 3 1-2 punch in baseball
Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler are one of the best duos in baseball if they’re both locked in, and I’m fully buying into the Nola bounce-back year. When Aaron Nola is on, he’s basically unhittable. Everything revolves around his fastball, and where that’s going. If his command with his heater is on, all of his other pitchers are flowing.
The Philadelphia Phillies will win the NL East
The Phillies are going to win the NL East. The Braves traded the heart and soul of their team for over 10 years, and the Mets will always be the Mets. They’ve already lost deGrom and Scherzer for the beginning of the season, and their starting lineup really isn’t that good. The Phillies are going to win 92 games this season, win the National League East, and break their 10-year playoff drought.
Opening Day Lineup
The Phillies take on the Oakland Athletics at 3:05PM today. Gates open at 1:05, and you should be in your seats by 2:20. Player introductions will start at 2:41, and Dan Baker is set to throw out the honorary first pitch.
