Nike drops USMNT 2022 World Cup kits, officially disappointing fans

Nike and the USMNT officially dropped their 2022 World Cup kits and they are… meh, to say the least. The release came ahead of friendly fixtures against Japan and Saudi Arabia next week.
B/R Football posted the USMNT 2022 World Cup kits in the wee hours of the morning today:
We knew this was coming, and covered the mid-August leak here at TLL, but this is still disappointing. It was the ultimate “say sike right now” moment, and Nike failed us miserably with these USMNT 2022 World Cup kits.
I’ve never claimed to be a design expert (even though I am), but those are just so lame. They look like something my 5th grade travel team would wear. And I was on the B team!
Since 2014, it’s felt like Nike is borderline ashamed to design kits for the USMNT. Granted, soccer fans know they’ve been lacking in kit design across all levels of the game, but you’d think an American company would devote a little extra effort for their homeland.
The players aren’t all that happy, either. When USMNT kits leaked on August 18th, young gun Timothy Weah let fans know exactly how he and his fellow players felt.
You’re meant to represent your country, with potentially their best team in 12 years, and that’s the best you can come up with? Ashton Kutcher better be running the B/R Football account because I feel I’ve been punk’d.
Have they completely forgotten the concept of “look good, feel good, play good?” It’s one of the most basic rules in all of sports, and especially applies to image-obsessed soccer players of the modern age.
Also, these USMNT 2022 World Cup kits don’t even come close to matching some of our nation’s best looks. Just look at some of these:
2012 “Waldos”

1994 Home “Denim” – nothing is more American than that

Compared to the totally unimaginative dreck that is the USMNT 2022 World Cup kits

Is it possible the United States just doesn’t care about the 2022 World Cup so they put little-to-no effort in the kit design? It is in fact, in Qatar, in the Fall, during the NFL season, basketball season, and MLB playoffs, so maybe that’s it?
That’s what happens when you choose a country that has summer temperatures of 100000 degrees so they have to move it to the Fall season I guess. Oh not to mention, Qatar has banned sex, alcohol, and anything cool or fun that typical Americans enjoy at sporting events.
Quick recap on the World Cup in Qatar
FIFA World Cup Sex Ban Due to Qatar “Laws”
- No Sex Outside of Marriage
- No Homosexuality (Sorry England)
- No Public Displays of Affection
- No Drinking or Partying after Matches
- And now we have to see those dreadful USMNT 2022 World Cup kits
Qatar’s World Cup Stadiums Will Be Alcohol-Free
“At stadiums, the plans are still being finalised, but the current discussion is to allow fans to have beer upon arrival and when leaving stadium, but beer won’t be served during the match or inside the stadium bowl,” via Reuters
Awesome. No beer inside the stadiums during soccer matches. Great fucking idea Qatar, you really seem to know how to throw a party for 1.2 MILLION people coming to your country for the World Cup.
This is why Drew Smith wrote an article about how America is back and when the World Cup returns to North America in 2026 and is played in Philadelphia, it’s going to be the biggest party the world has ever seen.
Regardless, the USMNT 2022 World Cup kits are incredibly disappointing.
