The New Coordinators: Fangio & Moore

Both Vic Fangio and Kellen Moore will bring a much needed breath of fresh air to both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball in 2024.

At 65 years old, Fangio originates from Dunsmore, Pennsylvania, a town located approximately two hours away from Philadelphia.

During part of 2021 and throughout the entire 2022 season, he served as a defensive consultant for the Eagles. Following Jonathan Gannon’s exit, the Eagles had intentions to elevate him to the role of defensive coordinator. However, Miami intervened and secured him before Philadelphia could make their move.

For years, the Eagles have been attempting to emulate the defensive philosophy pioneered by Vic Fangio. Both Gannon and Sean Desai, who were influenced by Fangio’s methodologies, failed to perfectly replicate his defensive scheme. The most successful defensive season under Nick Sirianni coincided with the year Fangio spent the entire season with the team, underscoring the significant impact of his presence.

As for Moore, he was hired just two days after the Fangio announcement.

Serving as the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator from 2019-’22, Moore led an offense that placed in the top-four across three key metrics: averaging 27.7 points per game, accumulating 391 yards per game, and achieving a 44% success rate on third-down conversions.

Eagles fans’ excitement for Kellen Moore stems from one standout aspect of his strategy: the extensive use of motion. This is particularly impressive when you contrast the struggles of the Eagles last season in handling motion with the success of the Chargers, who ranked among the top 10 teams for incorporating motion into their offense.
