Shocker: The New York Mets lose in embarrassing fashion to the Pittsburgh Pirates, post 2-5 record since Jose Iglesias ‘OMG’ performance at Citi Field
Death. Taxes. The New York Mets self-destructing after playing good baseball for a few weeks. Just last week, the New York Mets climbed out of the depths of hell and improved to one game over the .500 mark at 40-39.
They were one game out of an NL Wild Card Spot and the vibes were at an all-time high as the team rallied around the McDonalds Grimace mascot, who threw out the first pitch on June 12th. After Grimace, the Mets rallied off six straight wins and won 11 out of their last 13 games.

The Mets beat the Houston Astros 7-2, which put them above the .500 mark for the first time since May 2nd. Mets infielder and aspiring music artist Jose Iglesias, who goes by the stage name, “Candelita,” recently released his first single, “OMG” and following last night’s game, he the field to celebrate by performing his song.

At the time, I urged the New York Mets and their corny fanbase to take it easy.
There was no way that celebrating being over .500 for the first time since May 2nd while still out of the postseason was a good idea. It was a disaster waiting to happen.
They didn’t listen.
Following Jose Iglesias performance, the New York Mets have posted a 2-5 record. They are now 3.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot in the National League and have fallen back to two games under the .500 mark to 42-44 on the season.
The New York Mets trail the second place Atlanta Braves by five games and are 15 games behind the first place Philadelphia Phillies.

Last night, Paul Skenes and the Pittsburgh Pirates absolutely destroyed the Mets, crushing a franchise-tying seven home runs, including two grand slams. The Pirates hit so many home runs last night that they literally ran out of fireworks in Pittsburgh.
With the 14-2 win for the Pirates, they pulled within a half-game of the Mets in the NL Wild Card Standings. Paul Skenes tossed seven innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out eight.

LOL Mets…
I mean seriously, it’s almost too easy to predict a New York Mets downfall. The second they started playing well and actually had a cool thing going with Grimace throwing out a pitch that sparked a rally, the rolled out the red carpets for Jose Iglesias to sing his pop song “OMG” at Citi Field and just like that, they go 2-5 over the next seven games.
The New York Mets have proven yet again to be nothing more than a clown show. Maybe they’ll try to revitalize the Grimace rally and bring him back to play the trumpet for the Edwin Diaz entrance?
That turned out to be one hell of a rally cry for the Mets. Can lightning strike twice?
The Phillies own the best record in baseball and the Mets are so far down in the standings, that you can’t even spot Frank The Tank or Grimace – and that’s saying something.
