Weekend Rips: Eagles and Flyers look to crush Minnesota, Union look towards playoffs, and everything worth doing in Philly

The weekend is upon us here in the Delaware Valley and, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m a little worse for wear. The Phillies ripped my heart out and the Eagles folded like a lawn chair on Thursday Night Football. Throw in the usual emotional turmoil that comes with being left alone with my own thoughts, and yeah, it’s been a real doozy.

But no matter! Weekend Rips is here to save me from myself. I’ll be breaking down upcoming matchups for our teams, trending stories here at TLL, and some of the best activities and events going on in the City of Brother Love. You literally won’t have to read anything else.

Will Philadelphia’s most unhinged weekly column prevent me and thousands of others from getting absolutely tanked this weekend? Absolutely not, but it will at least quiet my turbulent mind for a short while. I hope it does the same for you.

So, without further ado, strap in. It’s time to let it rip.

Eagles take on the Vikings – Sunday 10/19 @ 1pm

The Birds are headed to Minnesota after getting waxed by the Giants. Fortunately, the extended break has given them some time to think things over, and the team seems optimistic they’ll be able to get out of this rut.

Some say it was the team meetings, but sources close to The Liberty Line revealed that the real game-changer was OC Kevin Patullo discovering there’s a second page in the playbook. Apparently there’s a lot of good stuff in there. Who knew?

There’s a chance we run into our old buddy Carson Wentz. If we lose to him this week I’ll be even more despondent than I usually am. The bottle of whiskey on my dresser will be speaking to me like the Green Goblin mask.

Flyers vs. Wild – Saturday 10/18 @7pm

The Flyers have looked pretty good to start the year after their opening night loss to the Florida Panthers. While Trevor Zegras has made an immediate impact, Russian wunderkind and my literal son Matvei Michkov has been quiet. Coach Rick Tocchet said it’s because of an ankle injury, which nobody mentioned to us until now.

I don’t know much about hockey, so I texted host of The Liberty Yell and the website’s wartime consigliere Chris Stumpo asking if the Wild are any good. In short, “They are.” Should be a good test to see what this Flyers team is made of.

Union host Charlotte in MLS Cup Playoffs – Saturday 10/18 @ 6pm

Philadelphia’s red-headed stepchild, fair or not, have their final match of the regular season on Saturday. They’ve won the Supporter’s Shield and secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, but also have the opportunity to play spoiler for Charlotte. A loss drops Charlotte into sixth place, which will certainly throw a spanner in the works for their playoff hopes.

The Sixers are… actually forget that. My mental health is bad enough.

It’s been a slow sports week thanks to the Phillies… cut us some slack.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
