Dianna Russini Mike Vrabel Affair Eagles AJ Brown

The Plot Against AJ Brown: Dianna Russini was caught holding hands with Patriots HC Mike Vrabel at a private resort and 94.1 WIP named her Eagles Insider of the Year

Page Six published photos this week of Dianna Russini and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at the Ambiente Resort in Sedona, Arizona on March 28th. Holding hands. Hugging. Sitting together in a hot tub. Breakfast on the hotel patio.

Both Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel are married. Vrabel called any suggestion of impropriety laughable. Russini said the photos did not represent the full group of six people she claims were hanging out. The Athletic’s executive editor called the photos misleading and lacking context.

Dianna Russini, Mike Vrabel, and why Eagles fans finally feel vindicated >>

I’m a big believer in the eye test. Take a look at these photos and tell me how you would draw any conclusion outside of these two dummies having a secret affair at some private, luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona.

There’s literally nothing misleading about any of this. Just two people having an affair and getting caught. That’s literally all there is to see. Look.

Patriots HC Mike Vrabel and Athletic NFL Insider Dianna Russini

An NFL head coach and the league’s most prominent insider, both married, photographed holding hands and hugging at a private luxury resort, and we are supposed to look at those photos and see nothing but two colleagues at a group outing.

The other four people just were not in any of the pictures. Totally normal. Nothing to see here. I mean seriously, is this what we are doing? Sorry, I cannot and will not do it.

THIS PHOTO IS RIDICULOUS LOL

Let me tell you why this matters beyond the obvious.

Dianna Russini spent the better part of the last year writing report after report about AJ Brown being unhappy, demanding a trade out of Philadelphia, and destroying the Eagles locker room. Every single one of those reports was wrong. Every single one.

We called it out every time and got roasted in the comments for it. We were told we were a joke. We were told to trust the insider. Then Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel got caught in 4K doing something that no married person should ever be doing regardless of who else was allegedly in the vicinity.

Oh Wow! Suddenly nothing is a coincidence anymore lol

We had hundreds of people in our comments telling us we were a joke for calling out Russini’s reporting. That we were clowns for not trusting the insider. That we did not know what we were talking about.

AJ Brown is obviously still a Philadelphia Eagle and the reason is because the reports were completely fabricated, just like we said all along. Color me surprised. Her reporting did not just say AJ Brown was unhappy. It consistently and specifically pointed to the New England Patriots as the trade destination.

The same New England Patriots coached by the man she was photographed holding hands with at a luxury resort in Arizona. We were right to call it out then and I am almost certain we will be proven right again now.

Point being, an affair with the head coach of the team her reporting kept pointing AJ Brown toward is literally the only explanation that makes all of it make sense.

This is also not the first time Russini has had questions raised about her relationships with the people she covers. In 2015 shortly after she joined ESPN, Jessica McCloughan, wife of Redskins GM Scot McCloughan, publicly accused Russini of an inappropriate relationship with her husband.

The tweets were specific. ESPN defended Russini. McCloughan later retracted the claims and called her comments unfounded. That is on the public record and it has been on the public record for ten years.

The journalism question here is not whether something happened in Sedona. That question only those people can answer. The question is whether a reporter who covers the entire NFL can objectively report on a league that includes a head coach she was photographed “vacationing” with.

That question does not require proof of anything. It only requires the appearance of a conflict. These photos provide that appearance clearly.

The Statements Following The Photos Were Even Worse…

Mike Vrabel: “These photos show a completely innocent interaction and any suggestion otherwise is laughable. This doesn’t deserve any further response.”

Dianna Russini: “The photos don’t represent the group of six people who were hanging out during the day. Like most journalists in the NFL, reporters interact with sources away from stadiums and other venues.”

Athletic executive editor Steven Ginsberg: “These photos are misleading and lack essential context. These were public interactions in front of many people. Dianna is a premier journalist covering the NFL and we’re proud to have her at the Athletic.”

Laughable. Misleading. Lack essential context. Premier journalist.

Zero shame. From any of them. Not a shred of accountability, not a moment of self-awareness, not even the courtesy of a real explanation. Those statements were an insult to anyone with functioning eyes.

The eye test never lies. I say it all the time when I am writing about the Phillies and I am always right. I am looking at these photos and I am right again. You do not hold hands with a source. You do not sit in a hot tub with a source. You do not hug a married NFL head coach at a private luxury resort and then release a statement calling the photos misleading.

Again… that is not what misleading looks like. That is what caught looks like.

94.1 WIP Should Answer For Their Sins Too

And 94.1 WIP, this city’s most consistently useless sports radio station, just gave Dianna Russini their Eagles Insider of the Year award. At minimum there should be an asterisk next to that thing. At minimum.

Dianna Russini wins WIP award despite being wrong about AJ Brown and the Eagles over and over again >>

The plot against AJ Brown was real. The reporting was false. The destination kept pointing to New England. The photos are now public. I do not need anything else. The eye test does the rest.

The NFL should investigate. They will not. Russini will remain employed. WIP will not apologize. And Philadelphia fans who were called conspiracy theorists for not believing her reporting will continue to be vindicated by reality one development at a time.
